Our History

Amadita Vasquez and Janet L. Stone founded Cornerstone Construction Services in 1988. They built the company together, with the goal of providing a commercially useful function to general contractors and owners alike. After studying the market and learning basic contracting processes, they decided to diversify their services to include concrete construction. When Janet became sick in 1997, Amadita purchased the remainder of Cornerstone's shares, and the company became a Minority/Woman Owned Business Enterprise. As the President and CEO, Amadita has maintained Cornerstone's reputation for providing quality concrete services. In 2005, Jason Gonder became a partner in the company.

Janet L. Stone began working in construction before women and minorities were accepted by the majority of general contractors. Her experience, hard work and dedication earned her the reputation of being a woman who was committed to her business and her industry, but most of all her word. This became Cornerstone's mantra as well.

Mrs. Stone was a charter member of the Central Florida chapter of Associated General Contractors, of which she became the President in 1998 after serving on the executive board for three years. She was an active member of the National Association of Women in Construction, where she helped form the Women Business Owners' Council and was well known for mentoring newcomers to the male-dominated construction industry.

Mrs. Stone was an exemplary career-woman, as well as a wife and mother with strong family values. She is remembered by her family and friends as a woman who could do anything she put her mind to.
